Regular visitors will notice that we have changed the name of the website to eastlondonworks.com.
Why have we done this? Well there are a few reasons. Firstly, the work the NHS does in relation to health and work was consolidated last year at Barts and the London NHS Trust, under the name Community Works for Health (CWfH).
The CWfH team works on three main theme:
A. Providing training, placements and employment advice for members of the communities served by Barts and the London, leading to jobs in the NHS.
B. Providing a focus for work as a health outcome among relevant patient groups, including those with long term conditions, mental health issues and those engaged in vocational rehabilitation.
C. Supporting development of staff through health promotion in the workplace and through training and personal development.
This is a innovative approach that bring employment and workplace health expertise under one roof here at the Health and Wellness Centre at Whitechapel. Barts and the London serves the Tower Hamlets community, but also serves communities across East London through its specialist care services and of course has a major site - Barts - at Smithfield, which caters for the City of London and surrounding area. In the offing is a projected merger with Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust in Leytonstone (Waltham Forest) and Newham University Hospital NHS Trust in Plaistow.
As a consequence, we wanted our Website to reflect the whole region and not just one part of it. As to why "eastlondonworks", I hope this obvious. We are positive about local employment both in the NHS and for many of our patient groups. We know the area would be healthier if more people were in work. East London needs work to Work, and we are dedicated to making this happen. We hope you like the change.
